Preface

This is a general beginner guide for playing in Foundry.
Your game may look slightly different from this guide. That is normal.

  • The DnD 2024 system defines character sheets and rules.

  • The Game Master may install modules that change the interface or automate actions.

So if something looks different, don’t worry.
Foundry may look complex at first, but in practice it’s mostly just clicking the things you can already see on screen.
Most actions are simple:

  • open your character sheet
  • click what you want to use
  • move your token

  • read results in chat

You don’t need to learn everything now. Just start playing.

Results appear in the Chat Log (right sidebar).

  • If it looks clickable, it probably rolls.

Moving Your Character

To move your token on the canvas:

  • Click your token on the map.
  • It becomes highlighted.

  • Drag it to move.

Optional:

  • Use the Ruler Tool (left controls) to measure distance.

 If you can’t move:

  • Make sure your token is selected and the Ruler Tool is not active (R)

  • Ask the GM (movement may be restricted)
